  • The 200 Club Monthly Draw

For just £10 a month you can have a chance to win significant monthly cash prizes and, more importantly, help to fundraise for the refurbishments to our presbytery.

If you’ve not joined yet please consider doing so!

As well as monthly draws, the end-of-year draw takes place in February each year and members who have had membership for six months are entered into this draw for £2,000.

Membership forms are available at the back of church, or speak to the Parish Office.

  • Altar Servers

Altar Servers play a very important role in the Church. Anyone who has made their First Holy Communion can apply (there is no upper age limit). First and foremost Altar Servers do not serve the Priest, they are serving Our Lord Jesus Christ.

At Saint Augustine’s all of our Altar Servers, after serving a probationary period, join the Guild of Saint Stephen whose objective is to encourage, positively and actively, the highest standards of serving at the church’s liturgy and so contribute to the whole community participation in a more fruitful worship of God.

Training Sessions are held two or three times a year and it is hoped that Altar Servers will attend the Guild's Annual Mass at Nottingham Cathedral in September each year.

  • Choir

The Choir sings at the 11.00am Mass on Sundays, and often on Feast Days and Holy Days of Obligation, including over Christmas, the Sacred Triduum, and Easter. The sung Mass is in Latin with Hymns, Psalms and Motets sung in English.

We practise each week, in church, from 6.45pm to 8.00pm on a Friday and gather at 10.00am before

    Mass on a Sunday.

If you are interested in joining us, please contact Ruth Proctor (ruthproctor73@gmail.com) or come

along to one of the practices.

  • Church Cleaners

We have a number of volunteers who clean the Church, doing so at a time to suit yourself whilst the Church is open.

All cleaning materials are provided. We always welcome more volunteers to help keep our beautiful Church looking lovely!

  • Church Flowers

The Church flowers are done by a group of dedicated parishioners who, on a rota basis, make sure that the Church has fresh flowers each week.

At Easter and Christmas the team gets together to make a spectacular display. We also do flowers on request for Weddings, Funerals and Baptisms.

  • Church Vacuuming

This is an informal group that aims to give service to our Church community through giving a thorough cleaning to the floors and carpets of our beautiful Church.

There are a number of volunteers who vacuum the church and a rota means that each person does the vacuuming at a time that suits them during their set week about seven times a year.

  • Mass at Stocken Prison

Mass is celebrated at Stocken Prison by the Parish Priest. Mass is held in the Chapel and attended by any inmates of HMP Stocken who are registered as Catholic. There are security officers in attendance.

Tea of Coffee is served after the Mass and there is a chance to chat with the men.

HMP Stocken is a category C adult male training prison and strict vetting is required of anyone volunteering.

  • Parish Friendship Group

The Parish Friendship Group aims to welcome new parishioners and to support all group members. We provide opportunities for members to meet socially on a regular basis and participate in group outings.

We see our role as a group to support our parish Priest and parish activities when required. We try to engage interesting speakers to deliver talks and generally aim to enhance community spirit within the Parish.

We try to reach out to other groups within the parish and the school for mutual benefits. All parishioners and friends are very welcome

  • Parish Pastoral Council

The PPC is a representative body of the parish whose purpose is to promote the whole mission of the church.

The PPC meets at least once every three months and its objective is to help the Parish Priest identify, implement and evaluate those pastoral initiatives and policies best suited to the spread of the Gospel within the parish. It also acts as a conduit for members of the parish to raise concerns, queries or ideas that can then be discussed and, if appropriate, put into action.

  • Readers at Mass

Readers are nominated for the readings at 6p.m Mass on Saturday, and the 9a.m and 11a.m on Sunday. The readings are listed in each weekly newsletter and can be found in the current Parish Mass book.

  • Saint Vincent De Paul

Society of St Vincent De Paul – Stamford Conference.

We are a group whose main function is visiting housebound parishioners on a regular basis, mainly for companionship. We are also tasked with giving help to poorer and homeless people in the community.

We meet every third week in the parish meeting room (dates are published in the Parish Newsletter) from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.

Contact Nicholas Armitage (ncarmitage@gmail.com) or Jacquie Kent (nandjkent@gmail.com).

  • Vergers

The Vergers most visible roles are welcoming people to Church and taking the collections. We also help prepare the Church before Mass and ensure that things run smoothly during services: organising the offertory, ringing the Church bell at the appropriate times and acting as points of contact. After Mass, we also tidy up.

Most of us attend and help at a regular Mass time, but we also appreciate having people who are ‘verger-trained’, who may be relied on when the regular vergers are short-handed. It would be good to have more of each!

Coffee Mornings

Coffee Mornings are held in the Church Hall on Sunday after both the 9a.m and 11a.m Masses. They are a wonderful way to welcome new parishioners and to support one another in the church.
